Arden Heights Boulevard Jewish Center is about to adopt a family that has been victimized by terror in Israel. We will be placed in touch with a particular family through the Israel Emergency Solidarity Fund, an organization who has made its mission mat of offering concrete assistance to victimized families, in addition to monetary support, we will be able to write to this family, visit, send toys, and give in what every way we find meaningful. This is an opportunity for our entire AHBJC family to reach out to another family in their time of need!
Donations are welcome and checks should be made out to Arden Heights Boulevard Jewish Center. The money will be forwarded to the appropriate agency. We will get back to you soon with the name and address of the family we are adopting.
Children victimized by terror in Israel need toys. They have experienced unimaginable losses and are traumatized for years to come. Some are bedridden for long periods of time. Others are now faced with me reality that there is no longer a breadwinner in the family and so there is no money available to buy toys for the kids. In conjunction with Kids for Kids, we want our children to have the opportunity to join with children all over me US to give toys to children in Israel.
So bring into the Synagogue throughout this High Holiday period a new children's book, toy, computer game or software. (Note: we are currently negotiating with the Israeli consulate to send our toys tariff free. If that is not possible, we will sell the toys and send the proceeds. Of course, if you are going to Israel then you can take them with you.)
As a result of a grassroots effort by some of our congregants, we are raising money to purchase another ambulance. Through your generosity, we have already raised enough to buy one ambulance. Perhaps you had an opportunity to see the Staten Island Advance coverage of the dedication ceremony--or visit pages on this website. People have been so generous that we are three-quarters of the way into the new one. So, if you haven't yet given toward this cause, now is the time to help provide Israel with much needed medical equipment. Checks should be made out to Shalom Chesed Fund and dropped off at the Temple.
On October 13 the community of Staten Island will participate in a 2 mile walk around me beautiful grounds of the Hilton Hotel as a way to raise money for the State of Israel. Registration begins at 10:00 a.m., the walk around 10:30, and closing ceremonies at 12:15 p.m. in addition to lunch and entertainment, there will be an art sale, the proceeds of which will go to support victims in Israel.
