CANDLE LIGHTING BY HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS, THEIR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN |
Lynne Laufer and Arlene Cohen reading the symbolism of each candle being lit

|
Candle One:
This candle stands for a mother in pain,
Clutching her child on selection day;
Pleading for mercy completely in vain,
That her child not be taken away.
 |
Candle Two:
This candle stands for this child-by now gone,
For dreams that ended before they started;
For his missions on earth all left undone,
When wrapped in flames this world he departed.
 |
Candle Three:
This candle stands for the old and the young,
For countless good-byes filled with emotion;
For thee lives unlived and songs unsung,
For the tears shed that could fill an ocean.
 |
Candle Four:
This candle stands for those martyrs unknown,
Who fought and died in a fearless manner;
On the streets of Warsaw they stood alone,
And glorified their blue and white banner.
 |
Candle Five:
This candle stands for the Jewish culture
That lived and flourished in Warsaw for long;
Before it was swept up by a vulture,
To the tune of madness, orgy and song.
 | Candle Six:
This candle stands for 6 million Jews,
Who vanished in smoke without a trace;
Who did not survive to hear the news,
That we are still part of the human race. |
Candle Seven, The Candle of Hope:
We hope and prayer that a Holocaust does not happen ever again.
So far our prayers have not been answered
