WELCOMING REMARKS: RABBI JUDAH NEWBERGER | ||
Rabbi Newberger in his Welcoming Remarks made the following points: His parents came from Hungary and Poland, while his wife's parents were from Romania-in fact, from the same town as Eli Wiesel. No book can truly do justice to the memory of the Jewish cultural and socioeconomic life (the Yeshivas, the books, the theaters, businesses, etc.) that existed in the many thousands of villages, towns and cities that the Nazis destroyed. We will never know what these people, killed in Holocaust, would have contributed to world culture. We do not know why G-d and man let the Holocaust happen. However, we must never let it happen again to us or anyone else. |

This is the purpose of the rebirth of Israel, resurrected from ashes. This is the purpose of the War against Terrorism, a war against the new Nazism. We are here to live, to celebrate life. |
